People Connected in Life

What seems fragmented and chaotic at first sight, are lines that skip, jump and twist in different directions. It's a representation of how chaotic life may seem, yet we're all connected through our dimensional network of family, friends colleagues and acquaintances.  We gather in the same places, we walk the same paths, yet we also create our own chaotic paths which are interconnected with other friends, strangers and creatures.

These webs of lines that overlap and take different paths, have their own color, energy and rhythm, as it delineates separate paths.  There are multiple starting points.  When we zoom in and out and follow the interweaving linearity from surface into dimensional space, we can come to many different solutions.  The overall visual effect is that of connectivity although it has taken a circuitous route.

Journey into Space

This painting metaphorically represents motion in the universe. The earth is moving around the sun. It is a rotation about an axis. My work is inspired by structure and patterns found in mathematics. This painting has geometric shapes, which refer to the geometry found throughout the natural world. The central core is a circle, which is a universal geometric symbol. It can be seen in the sun, the moon, and planets. Symbolically it also represents infinity, peace and perfection.

The use of geometry dates back to early civilizations. In prehistoric times, according to researchers, it was definitively concluded that  the massive upright stones at Stonehenge, England, were arranged in a circle. The intent was to be an astronomical observatory. These stones were spaced apart so as to align with two solstices on the north-east and south-west axis.  This painting represents my visual impression of traveling through space.

Movement in Nature

This painting is a metaphor for a branch of mathematical and physical theory that deals with nature and the behavior of simple systems that can display complex behavior. This behavior is impossible to predict. Examples of this type of behavior can be found in storms and weather patterns, whirlpools and cloud formations with recurring cycles but also with randomness. We also find this type of behavior in the financial markets that seem to be predictable but then become unstable and random.

I have tried to depict this complex behavior in my blue painting with white gestural marks. These hand gestural marks are depicted as turbulent, lyrical, continuous loops and cycles. The blue color refers to our blue planet, the earth and also the infinite sky.

Patterns in the Woods

I walk in the woods near my home and I observe the rhythms, structures, patterns and sounds. As the light changes from dawn to dusk, I understand the eath's movement around the sun. It is a rotation about an axis and a change of location. As we listen to a symphony, we experience the vibration of sound waves and as we observe the spinning of a wheel, we experience the element of motion and time. It is a rotation about a core. This painting shows a movement or displacement of location of similar triangles or sections that rotate about an axis. They are similar but not identical. We visually experience the motion of that rotation like that of the hands of a clock telling time. This painting metaphorically  represents motion ans the awareness  of time.
